Chafee Education and Training Voucher (ETV)
Up to $5,000/year for college, vocational training, or related costs for current and former foster youth
What it does
Federal Chafee program funds vouchers of up to $5,000 per academic year for post-secondary tuition, books, supplies, room/board, transportation, and childcare. Renewable through age 25 with continued enrollment and satisfactory progress.
Eligibility
Youth who were in foster care on or after their 16th birthday, including youth adopted from care after age 16. Must be ages 14-25 and enrolled (or planning to enroll) in an accredited post-secondary or vocational program at least half-time.

Processing time
Applications are reviewed by the state ETV coordinator (CSAC in California). Initial determination typically within 30 days; renewals at the start of each academic term.
